Game Jargon Definition: “Press Your Luck”

Press Your Luck (verb phrase) - press your luck /pres yôr lək/

A board game mechanic in which players decide between settling for existing gains that they have made on a given turn and risking said gains for the potential of additional rewards. Press-your-luck games tend to have a certain amount of randomness involved. “Press your luck” is also known as "push your luck.”

Examples of games that use the press-your-luck mechanic include: Port Royal (2014); Codenames (2015); Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure (2016); The Quacks of Quedlinburg (2018); and Cubitos (2021).
